Lauren Blackburn, AICP, brings her perspective to the health and transportation discussion based upon her more than 14 years of experience in multimodal and long-range planning, with key areas of interest in bicycle and pedestrian transportation, comprehensive planning, roadway safety, and community health. In the episode, she discusses how Vision Zero can be a conduit for the relationship between the health and transportation industries, and how steps like sharing a common vocabulary can help transportation and health professionals start working together on common goals. Lauren oversaw the development of Watch for Me NC, a statewide bicycle and pedestrian safety program for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and managed the state’s first comprehensive pedestrian and bicycle plan – Walk Bike NC. Lauren is currently based in VHB‘s Raleigh, NC office where she is a senior project manager.
