At both the federal and state levels, funding to maintain and improve the transportation system has fallen far short of what officials say is needed. In New Jersey, much of the roadway and transit network is supported by the Transportation Trust Fund. The trust fund is currently using all money it raises to pay down debt. John Wisniewski chairs the New Jersey Assembly’s Transportation Committee and he’s called for an increase of the state’s 14.5 cent gas tax. He spoke with Transportation Radio‘s Bernie Wagenblast to talk about the trust fund and efforts to support it.
